Mountain Elopement ceremony at Island Lake Lodge in Fernie, British Columbia

Mountain Elopement Island Lake Lodge – Fernie, BC

Tammy and Mark decided to elope surrounded by the Lizard Mountain Range at Island Lake Lodge in Fernie, BC on a beautiful Monday afternoon in August.

There is something so calm about a weekday wedding or elopement in the Kootenay mountains. A lot of the travellers and explorers have gone home for another week of work and it feels like you have the outdoors all to yourselves! It’s days like this that make me so incredibly grateful to be a Fernie Wedding Photographer!

I arrived to Island Lake Lodge to photograph Tammy as she finished getting ready. She had already had her hair and make-up done by the talented ladies at No. 3 Salon and picked up her beautiful hydrangea bouquet and florals from The Green Petal Floral Designs, so there wasn’t much left to do other than get married!

Island Lake Lodge Ceremony at I Dew Point

Their ceremony at ‘I Dew Point’ at Island Lake Lodge was made up of 5 family members: Mark’s daughter, their Best Man and Matron of Honour, and Mark’s parents who were able to make it last minute to the celebration. It was intimate and so, so beautiful!

Their ceremony, officiated by Lynn Rogers, was so special. The moment Tammy rounded the corner and Mark saw her for the first time there was no question that these two were excited to get married! Some lighthearted laugher was added as she came down the aisle and a mayfly flew right in her face!

There wasn’t a dry eye found during their vows. Mark surprised Tammy and sang her the most beautiful song as he played the guitar. Mark contacted me ahead of time to let me know and I was able to capture audio and video of this very special moment for them as well, which they have expressed they are over the moon thrilled about!

More smiles and laughs as they performed a sand ceremony together with Mark’s daughter. I love how they decided to pour the sand with wild abandon. Those smiles say it all! After, they shared their first kiss below the towering Lizard Mountain Range as their background.

Lakeside Mountain Portrait Session at Island Lake Lodge

We said goodbye to their guests after family photos to do some bride and groom portraits around the lake. The entire portrait session was laid back and so much fun! The sun was hot so the shade gave us some much appreciated relief.

As we finished up we heard an horn blown. It was because there was a Mama Moose spotted and the Island Lake Lodge staff were out making sure to keep everyone visiting safe. Pictured above is one staff member showing off his bear spray holstering skills! Thankfully bear spray was just a precaution and not necessary.

Tammy and Mark then proceeded to meet their guests at the lodge to have an intimate dinner together that they chose to not have photographed.

Island Lake Lodge is an incredible place to get married any day of the week, but weekday dates certainly have a different appeal to them!
