Dreamy Whistler Waterfall Elopement + Seaside Sunset

Elopement bride and groom stand at the base of a towering waterfall in Whistler, British Columbia

Sometimes life just works out and plans seem to come together perfectly. That’s exactly what happened to make this styled Whistler waterfall elopement plus seaside sunset session happen!

Water and mist surround a bride and groom

Caitlyn and Moreley got married in the beautiful Okanagan and had a big traditional wedding which I wasn’t able to photograph for them, something we were both sad about. Caitlyn and I have been friends since middle school and her and Moreley are just the sweetest couple ever so obviously I would have loved nothing more than to have gotten to document that for them!

They ended up having a beautiful wedding day, which happened to land on the smokiest day the Okanagan had seen in years! There were no rolling hills and beautiful vineyards to be seen, only a dense blanket of smoke which didn’t give them the ambience in their wedding photos they had dreamed of.

Well later on a unique opportunity presented itself when all three of us were going to be in the Whistler area at the same time! I approached them about taking a second crack at wedding photos and helping me showcase two different beautiful locations in the Whistler area and they were immediately in!!! Sometimes it takes a second try to get it right! I had my sights set on this gorgeous waterfall in Whistler for a few years already and this was the perfect excuse to visit it!

Whistler Waterfall Elopement

Caitlyn spent the morning having her hair styled beautifully by Serendipity Hair Studio, and having her make-up done by the talented Rose Quartz Beauty. Once she was ready we picked up a gorgeous bouquet from Niche Boutique Florals and all hopped in a car together to make our way to the trailhead on a gorgeous September afternoon. British Columbia has some of the most diverse landscapes, with so many within a few hours drive from each other. It makes for a British Columbia elopement photographer’s dream!

The hike in is not for the faint of heart, with one area requiring some bouldering which we made sure we were all equipped for ahead of time!

When we arrived at the base of the waterfall we were all in awe at it’s beauty. The mist coming off of the waterfall cooled off the area to a much nicer temperature than when we were hiking in.

One of my favourite moments from our session together was when they were at the base of the waterfall and all of a sudden they were drenched by a gust of mist! You can see it in the photos exactly when it happens!

Ocean Sunset Elopement Portraits

We all agreed that we could have spent the entire day at the base of that waterfall, but as the sun continued to set we knew we had to make our way to our seaside sunset location. The sun was in the perfect location when we arrived and we spent the evening basking in the golden light beside the calm ocean water.

While this wasn’t their actual wedding or elopement day, it easily could have been. These two are a real married couple very much in love! And while they look like they could be models I choose to use real couples that aren’t models for my styled wedding and elopement shoots. I want the images to look as close to what a real wedding or elopement would look like so they’re far more relatable!
